President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Visits Türkiye for Strategic Cooperation Council Meeting

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan will embark on an official visit to Türkiye on July 29, 2025. The visit is at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and marks a significant milestone in the Kazakh-Turkish bilateral relationship.

During his visit, President Tokayev will participate in the fifth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Ankara, Türkiye. This forum serves as a platform for discussions between Kazakhstan and Türkiye, focusing on enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties.

The meeting is a key event in the Kazakh-Turkish bilateral relationship, and the negotiations and discussions are aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. The agenda for the meeting has not been publicly disclosed, but sources suggest that the discussions will revolve around several key topics.

One of the primary focus areas will be strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Türkiye. This includes efforts to deepen historical fraternal relations and work towards enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties.

Another crucial topic will be increasing bilateral trade and investment. Turkish President Erdoğan aims to raise the trade volume between the two countries from the current $5 billion to $15 billion, while Kazakhstan has committed to supplying at least 34 product categories worth $1 billion to the Turkish market.

The meeting is also expected to result in the signing of 20 joint agreements across various cooperation areas, including energy and transportation. For instance, a cooperation agreement is set to be signed between Turkish Petroleum Corporation and NC Kazmunaygaz JSC, as well as a business development agreement for freight transportation via the Middle Corridor railway route.

The meeting will also delve into deepening cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). Both leaders are expected to emphasise institutional strengthening and more active joint efforts within the organisation.

Regional dynamics in Central Asia and the Caspian region will also be a topic of discussion, particularly amid shifting geopolitical tensions. Kazakhstan, being a center of peace and stability in the region, will likely be praised for its contributions to regional and global stability.

Additional highlights of the meeting include mutual recognition of each other's leadership contributions to regional and global stability, and the ceremonial awarding of Turkey’s highest state honour to President Tokayev by Erdoğan, symbolizing the close bilateral ties between the two nations.

The visit and the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting are not the only events during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to Türkiye, but they are the focus of this report. The details of the other events have yet to be disclosed.

The visit was reported by Akorda, and it is expected to further solidify the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Türkiye, while also boosting economic and trade relations, advancing joint infrastructure and energy projects, and coordinating regional security and development strategies.
