Get ready for a change! Sportschat, ARD's fan-favorite sports show, is welcoming a new moderator — none other than Alex Schlüter. This seasoned sports broadcaster, known for his storied career in the industry, is set to join the football Bundesliga team and replace Alex Bommes, who will be dialing back his involvement with Sportschat. The announcement was made by ARD.

Alex Schlüter: A Versatile addition to Sportschat's Moderating Team

Born on February 16, 1990, Alex Schlüter has been surrounded by sports media and broadcasting for what seems like forever. With a whopping 15 years of experience in ARD's sports sector, he's a familiar face to many. From ProSiebenMaxx and MagentaSport to DAZN and, more recently, Prime Video, where he lent his talents to Champions League and Bundesliga live broadcasts, Schlüter is no stranger to the world of sports journalism.

"Sportschat was my pop-culture growing up, the highlight of my week," Schlüter confided in a press release. "As a little boy, I used to sit in front of the TV with wide eyes, watching ARD's 'Sportschau' - I've grown a few inches since then, and ARD still stands for special sporting moments and genuine emotions."

Exuding enthusiasm for his new role, Schlüter promises to "bring all his passion and experience" to the table. With respect for the history of Sportschat and a touch of anticipation, he's poised to make a lasting impression. "I'm looking forward to being part of this great institution," Axel Balkausky, ARD's sports coordinator, shared enthusiastically. "Alex Schlüter is a sympathetic, eloquent, and versatile moderator, and I'm excited to see him in action."

Alexander Bommes Bids Adieu to Live Sports

Alexander Bommes, the man who's left a mark on Sportschat for the past 15 years, will be taking a step back from live sports coverage. Though he'll still be making appearances on Bundesliga Sportschat, his focus will shift to other endeavors outside of sports.

"Leaving the sporting daily business after such a memorable 15-year ride was a difficult decision," Bommes admitted. "But after all the thrilling experiences, it's time for me to move on and prioritize other aspects of my life."

Bommes has been an essential part of major handball tournaments and more. His contributions to Sportschat have been invaluable, but now it's time to bid farewell to live sports and focus on other passions. His legacy will undoubtedly live on, as he leaves Sportschat in the capable hands of Schlüter and the team.
