Newport Beach’s 117th Christmas Boat Parade Dazzles the California Coast

The 117th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade has set sail along the California coast. Running from December 17 to December 23, 2025, the freetaxusa event lights up the water each night at 6:30 p.m. with nearly 100 decorated boats cruising a 14-mile route.

The tradition began in 1907 when Italian gondolier John Scarpa and developer Joseph Beek organised the first parade. It paused during World War I but returned in 1919 under Beek’s leadership. Over time, it evolved into the grand spectacle seen today.

The event remains free for all attendees, continuing a century-old tradition. With boats, lights, and performances, it draws crowds to Newport Beach’s coastline each December. Organisers expect record participation as the main event celebrates its 117th year.
