Newly formed AfD youth group to be headed by Jean-Pascal Hohm
Jean-Pascal Hohm to Lead AfD's New Youth Wing
Jean-Pascal Hohm, a prominent member of the Brandenburg state parliament and chairman of AfD Cottbus, is set to take the helm of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party's new youth organization. The new group is scheduled to be founded on November 29 and 30 in Gießen, Germany.
Hohm, who has a history in AfD youth politics, was the founding chairman of the Junge Alternative (JA) youth wing in Brandenburg back in 2014. However, the JA was dissolved earlier in 2025 due to concerns about its extremist links and anti-democratic tendencies, which were identified by German intelligence agencies.
The new youth organization, designed to replace the JA, will be more tightly controlled by the AfD leadership. Hohm's role in the new group is to serve as its head when it is officially founded at the party congress.
Hohm's background has been marked by controversial connections. He was previously dismissed from a post in the Brandenburg state parliament due to allegations of right-wing extremist associations and has been seen in photos with Italian neo-fascists from Casa Pound. Despite this, Hohm has re-emerged as a significant figure within the AfD's youth movement.
German domestic intelligence classifies Hohm and other Brandenburg AfD lawmakers as right-wing extremist. Hohm's appeal lies in his ability to connect with young people through his involvement in the Energie Cottbus football fan scene and his disciplined loyalty to the AfD party leadership.
The new youth organization is expected to emphasise nationalist and right-wing themes, with names such as "Patriotic Youth" being considered.
In essence, Hohm represents the AfD's efforts to maintain youth engagement under closer party control while retaining ties to the far-right extremist milieu. The founding of the new youth organization in Gießen is an important step in this direction.
