William Shatner: Sometimes persistence can feel like an insulting pursuit
Newly Elected Canadian Prime Minister Faces Proposed Rebuttal from William Shatner
Actor William Shatner shares his thoughts on President Donald Trump's proposal to make Canada the 51st U.S. state and Elon Musk's vision for Mars as "life insurance" for humanity in an interview with Jesse Watters Primetime.
Canadian actor William Shatner playfully suggested that Canada could counter Trump's offer by becoming the 11th U.S. province instead. He described the notion of Canada becoming a U.S. state as an "un-serious offer" that many are taking too seriously.
"I've dealt a little in real estate, and I'm going to say to Carney, do a real estate deal," Shatner told Watters. "Make a counter-offer. Let's offer - Canada, offer to the United States to be the 11th province."
Shatner expressed some doubt about Trump's sincerity in wanting to make Canada the 51st state, stating, "Canada's been around for 150 years more, and they've had a noble service. You can't denigrate that, you can't deny that."
When asked about Elon Musk's intention to colonize Mars, Shatner revealed his interest in the philosophical and existential aspects of human exploration. He pondered humanity's innate drive to search for new frontiers, like Mars, and mused, "What is this thing that mankind has to search and search and search and never be content?"
Shatner plans to explore this topic further with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson during their upcoming unscripted concert in Seattle in June.
Since his iconic role as Capt. James T. Kirk in Star Trek, the 94-year-old Shatner has been no stranger to the universe's mysteries. In 2021, he became the oldest person to travel to space when he flew on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin New Shepard rocket.
Following his space journey, Shatner discussed the experience as feeling "like a funeral." Shatner continues to oversee and host his investigative documentary series "The UnXplained" on the History Channel, where he helps explain the world's most intriguing phenomena.
[1] While Shatner did not explicitly discuss Elon Musk's vision for Mars in this specific interview, his broader thinking about human exploration and the quest for discovery aligns with Musk's ideas. Further research suggests that Shatner has shared his thoughts on Mars and its potential role in humanity's future in various forums (e.g., podcast interviews and panel discussions). However, these contexts may not directly correspond to his views on Musk's specific plans for Mars colonization.
- William Shatner's thoughts on human exploration are reminiscent of Elon Musk's vision for Mars, despite not directly discussing it in the interview.
- Shatner's fascination with Mars' role in humanity's future is not a newfound interest, as evidenced by his previous comments on the subject in various forums.
- The philosophical and existential aspects of space-and-astronomy exploration, as discussed by Shatner, have parallels with the goals of Elon Musk's Mars colonization plans.
- Celebrities like Elon Musk and William Shatner often share a common interest in the pursuit of knowledge, whether it be in politics, entertainment, or science.
- Shatner's persistent curiosity and interest in the mysteries of the universe, evident in his space journey and investigative documentary series, cannot be separated from his thoughts on Mars and human exploration.
- In the realm of science and space-and-astronomy, the entertainers' persistence in questioning and seeking answers aligns with the drive for discovery and colonization like Elon Musk's proposed Mars deal.
