Newly Appointed Ex-Hertha Star Leads prestigious Club
Exciting News from Ajax Amsterdam!
John Heitinga, a familiar face in the Dutch football scene, is back as the new boss at Ajax Amsterdam! After a tough loss against PSV Eindhoven, outgoing coach Francesco Farioli (36) bid adieu. Now, his successor has been announced.
Yep, you guessed it! It's John Heitinga (41) stepping up as head coach for Ajax's record champions!
Remember when Heitinga briefly took charge as interim coach in 2023? Well, he didn't receive a permanent position back then. But now, he's officially returning - inking a deal that keeps him with the team until 2027!
Learning from English Giants
In the interim, Heitinga proved himself as Arne Slot's (46) right-hand man at English champions, Liverpool FC.
He also garnered Premier League experience while assisting at West Ham. Now, he's set to bring Ajax back to its rightful place - with Marcel Keizer (56), another trusted ally, by his side!
The man who once donned the Hertha BSC jersey in 2014, shares his thoughts on his new role: "I'm pumped and honored to be given this opportunity at Ajax."
Club management is just as excited about this fresh chapter! Alex Kroes (51), the technical director, had this to say, "John is a great coach with remarkable dedication and ambition. He's developed himself in the Premier League and Champions League in recent years."
Ajax had their eyes on Heitinga for quite some time. Kroes added, "Marijn (note: Beuker, 40, sporting director) and I spoke to him last year and have stayed in touch since. John knows the club well, and we're convinced that he, together with Marcel, will help our players improve and build on the progress we've made since last summer..."
Heitinga knows the club and the environment, and he'll be working on "the squad composition for the coming season," according to Kroes. Heitinga will also be an "early coach involved" in the team's preparations.
It looks like Ajax is set to regain its glory days, mate! Get ready for an exciting ride!
John Heitinga, in his role as the new head coach for Ajax Amsterdam, aims to lead the team back to European-leagues glory, as he shares his enthusiasm for the opportunity. Having learned from giants like Arne Slot at English champions, Liverpool FC, Heitinga is eager to apply his Premier League experience to Laliga and help Ajax recapture its past success.
