Newfire apparatus acquired by Pforzheim's Fire Department
Pforzheim, Germany - The Pforzheim Fire Department has strengthened its firefighting capabilities with the acquisition of two modern TLF 3000 tanker trucks and a special firefighting trailer. The new equipment was unveiled during a ceremony on June 13.
Fire Chief Sebastian Fischer handed over the new vehicles to the Hohenwart and Huchenfeld departments, while the Dillweißenstein department received a special firefighting trailer in the same ceremony. The new additions are expected to significantly enhance the fire department's striking power, as stated by Fire Chief Fischer.
The TLF 3000 tanker trucks, built by Magirus on a MAN chassis and equipped by Wilhelm Barth GmbH & Co. Feuerwehrtechnik, are single-tyred, all-wheel-drive, and capable of traveling off-road. Each tanker truck costs approximately €380,000 and boasts a 3,000-liter water tank. They are equipped to carry hoses, making them crucial for fighting wildfires or transporting water to areas with insufficient water supply.
The special firefighting trailer, on the other hand, is designed to carry additional equipment such as foam and provide support for technical and hazardous materials operations. It is equipped to contain contaminated firefighting water during hazardous material incidents. Notably, a roll container with a 150-meter long plastic hose can create an artificial dam, capable of containing over 600,000 liters of contaminated water when laid out in a circle.
These new vehicles are a significant upgrade from the three over 30-year-old TLF 8/18 tanker trucks on Unimog chassis, which could only carry 1,800 liters of water. The chassis of the replaced Unimog TLF will be refurbished for use as transport vehicles for disaster relief purposes within the fire department.
The new equipment is well-equipped for severe weather events, with a water sucker, submersible pump, and a "mini-Chiemsee" pump capable of pumping 1,500 liters of heavily contaminated water per minute. This makes them ideal for fighting fires during heavy rain events and industrial fire suppression.
Jürgen Stutz, head of the Technical and Building department at Pforzheim Fire Department, stated that the new vehicles are modern and powerful with up-to-date technology. The city of Pforzheim has invested approximately €240,000 in the new firefighting trailer.
This acquisition is an important step in implementing the Fire Protection Plan adopted by Pforzheim City Council in 2010 and updated in 2020. The new equipment is expected to improve the fire department's capabilities in areas such as vegetation fire suppression, weather and heavy rain events, and industrial fire suppression.
For precise specifications and features of the TLF 3000 tanker trucks and the special firefighting trailer, contacting the local fire department or municipal authorities would provide the most accurate and detailed information.
The Fire Chief, Sebastian Fischer, acknowledged that the new TLF 3000 tanker trucks and the special firefighting trailer will significantly boost the fire department's abilities in various areas, including wildfires, areas with insufficient water supply, and industrial fire suppression. These modern additions, equipped with advanced technology, will also play a crucial role during severe weather events and heavy rain events.
