Three of these inductees have previously received nominations: Lauper, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes were all previously in the running. However, Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, and Oasis all found themselves locked out this time around.
Next month, these musical trailblazers will be ceremoniously inducted at a grand celebration. John Sykes, the Hall's chairman, had this to say, "Their music has given a voice to generations, and has inspired countless artists who came after them."
Interestingly, artists must have to wait 25 years since their first release to be eligible for induction. However, exceptions are made for the Musical Excellence and Early Influence Awards. Artists such as JAY-Z, Foo Fighters, Tina Turner, Carole King, The Go-Go's, and Todd Rundgren were acknowledged through these categories, even though they did not join the main act of 2021[2][3].
