Maer Roshan, editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter (THR), has announced that David Canfield has joined the publication as a senior entertainment writer. Canfield brings a wealth of experience covering Hollywood to his new role.

Based in Los Angeles, Canfield will start working at THR's headquarters on October 1. He has previously served as a Hollywood correspondent at Vanity Fair and as movies editor at Entertainment Weekly. His bylines have also appeared in Vulture, Slate, and IndieWire.

Canfield's work is renowned for delivering deeply reported features on various topics. He has explored the enduring queer subtext of films such as The Talented Mr. Ripley and Brokeback Mountain, and the storied relationship between Cary Grant and Randolph Scott.

In his new role, Canfield will bolster THR's awards season coverage, reporting from key film festivals and writing cover stories and celebrity profiles. He will also help book talent for THR's Roundtable series.

THR's recent expansions include coverage of awards, politics, style, and technology. The publication aims to remain the definitive voice on the awards-season race and a destination for insightful profiles, impactful reporting, and breaking industry news.

Canfield's hire marks the latest move in THR's continued evolution. In recent years, the publication has earned numerous accolades, including a National Magazine Award, an L.A. Press Club honor for best website, multiple Daytime Emmy nominations, and a growing list of SoCal Journalism and Webby nods.

David Canfield has served as a juror at prestigious film festivals such as the Venice Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and festivals in San Francisco, Savannah, and beyond. He co-hosted the Little Gold Men podcast at Vanity Fair.

Canfield is an L.A. Press Club finalist and GLAAD Media Award nominee. His profiles of stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, and Benedict Cumberbatch have garnered wide acclaim.

With David Canfield on board, THR is poised to continue its reign as a leading source of entertainment news and analysis.
