Newcastle United's Historic Champions League Win
Newcastle United secured their first-ever points in the UEFA Champions League with a resounding 4-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise. Coach Eddie Howe praised the performance, describing it as 'magnificent'.
Newcastle's European away record had been poor, with only one win in their last 11 matches. However, they turned the tables in Brussels, scoring four goals. Anthony Gordon opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute, adding another in the 64th. Nick Woltemade's goal in the 17th minute was a fortunate flick that deflected a shot from Sandro Tonali. Harvey Barnes sealed the win in the 80th minute.
Union Saint-Gilloise will look to bounce back in their next match at home against Inter Milan on October 21. Meanwhile, Newcastle will host Benfica in their next UEFA Champions League fixture on the same date.
Newcastle United's impressive win over Union Saint-Gilloise has given them a much-needed boost in the Champions League standings. They will aim to build on this momentum when they face Benfica next.
