Newcastle United have strengthened their squad for the new season with the addition of midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa. The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract and will wear the number 41 shirt at St. James' Park.

Ramsey, a product of Aston Villa's youth academy, made 167 appearances for the Midlands club across all competitions, scoring 17 goals. Last season, he played 46 games, including 10 UEFA Champions League appearances.

The transfer fee for Ramsey is an initial £39 million, potentially rising to £43 million with add-ons.

Ramsey's international career mirrors his club career, having represented England from the U18 level to the U21 team, culminating in winning the European Under-21 Championship in 2023, alongside Newcastle's Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle views Ramsey as a young, hungry, and technically gifted midfielder who will strengthen their squad depth. He joins a midfield with established players like Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali, and others.

Ramsey's Newcastle debut could come as early as their home game against Liverpool on August 25, 2025.

Meanwhile, the club has faced challenges in landing other targets, with star striker Alexander Isak missing the opening game against Aston Villa due to his reaction to the club turning down a bid from Liverpool. The transfer window has been a "stressful" summer for coach Eddie Howe.

The club has also brought in Jacob Murphy, whose qualities will bring something different to Newcastle United's pitch. Murphy fits the profile of being young, hungry to develop, and having Premier League football experience.
