Newcastle Jets surge to eighth after stunning 3-1 comeback over Phoenix

Newcastle Jets climbed from last to eighth in the A-League Men after a strong 3-1 win over Wellington Phoenix. The team scored three goals in just eight minutes to secure the victory. Next weekend, they will host Sydney FC at home.

The match started poorly for Newcastle when Max Burgess was forced off with an injury in the fifth minute. Despite the early setback, goalkeeper James Delianov kept his side in the game with seven crucial saves.

Newcastle broke through in the 50th minute when Eli Adams found the net. Lachie Rose added a second just four minutes later, followed by Clayton Taylor’s third in the 57th minute. Wellington pulled one back in the 76th minute through Ifeanyi Eze, but it wasn’t enough to change the result.

The win marked a significant turnaround for Newcastle, who had been bottom of the table before the match. Meanwhile, Wellington remains 11th, sitting just above Melbourne Victory.

Newcastle’s victory moves them into eighth place, lifting them off the bottom of the league. Their next challenge comes on Saturday when they face Sydney FC at home. Wellington, still struggling in 11th, will host Central Coast the same day.
