New Zealand Dominates Zimbabwe in 2nd Test Day 2: Conway, Nicholls, Ravindra Score Century Plus Scores
New Zealand Shatters Records with Triple Century Feat in Bulawayo
In a remarkable display of batting prowess, the Black Caps set a new record during the second day of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. The New Zealand team ended the day at an unprecedented 601/3, marking their highest Test score against Zimbabwe and the biggest-ever Test win for the team: an innings and 359 runs victory.
Three New Zealand batters—Rachin Ravindra (165), Devon Conway (153), and Henry Nicholls (150)—each scored over 150 runs, a rare event in Test cricket history where three players reached the 150-run mark in the same innings. This feat has only been achieved twice before, by England in 1938 against Australia and India against Sri Lanka in 1986.
Nicholls, who completed his 10th Test century, ended the day unbeaten on 150, just 50 runs shy of his best ever score in a Test (200 against Sri Lanka in 2023). Ravindra, on the other hand, brought up his third Test ton, which was also his quickest in the format, off 104 balls, smashing 21 fours and two maximums.
Conway's innings was ended by Blessing Muzarabani, but not before the opener surpassed 2,000 runs in the longest format. Muzarabani also took one wicket for 101 runs in the match.
The partnership between Nicholls and Ravindra was 256 runs, contributing significantly to the record-breaking total. The Black Caps showed no signs of letting up, with Maseksea catching Jacob Duffy at midwicket to end the day's play.
New Zealand declared at 601/3, which was their fifth-highest total in Test matches away from home. The match ended with Zimbabwe bowled out cheaply, and the Black Caps sealing a 2-0 series sweep. This historic innings will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable in New Zealand's Test cricket history.
The Black Caps' triple century in Bulawayo was not limited to batting alone, as the team also showcased their dominance in sports, with three players scoring over 150 runs in a single innings – a rare achievement in the field of sports.
This incredible sports feat in Test cricket history, where three players reached the 150-run mark in the same innings, has only been accomplished twice before: by England in 1938 against Australia and India against Sri Lanka in 1986.
