In the upcoming local elections in Düsseldorf, Germany, The Left party (Die Linke) has announced a focused campaign on addressing social injustice and wealth inequality, building on their notable success from the federal election in February 2025.

The Left party achieved the strongest increase in second votes in Düsseldorf during the federal election, reaching nearly 10% support. This momentum is to be carried into the local elections through grassroots efforts such as door-to-door canvassing, campaign stands at busy locations like S-Bahn stations early in the morning, and distributing flyers to engage voters with arguments centered on combating inequality.

In addition to their wealth and social justice agenda, The Left party is also actively protesting a planned Bundeswehr (German armed forces) swearing-in ceremony in Düsseldorf. This protest aligns with their broader platform opposing militarization and emphasizing social priorities over military buildup. They participated in public demonstrations, such as the Kundgebung (rally) at the Rathaus (town hall) to oppose the Bundeswehr event.

The Left party in Düsseldorf has submitted a motion for a citizen's decision on a billion-dollar singing temple for a few, knowing that this motion will likely fail. They aim to prevent the city from financially participating in the evangelical church's burden related to the event. The party criticises the city's orientation towards the rich, specifically pointing out the growing shortage of affordable housing, the lack of a traffic turnaround, and the wrong focus on mega-expensive prestige objects in culture.

The Left's MEP Özdemir Alev Demirel demanded carrying the momentum from the federal election into the local election at the campaign launch on Brunnenstraße. Chris Demmer, Julia Marmulla, and Thomas Eberhardt-Koester form part of the top team in the Left's election campaign. The campaign team of the democratic rising star from New York, Zohran Mamdani, provided additional motivation at the campaign launch in Düsseldorf.

The Left's campaign in Düsseldorf's local election will involve distributing flyers and exchanging arguments at various locations, including S-Bahn stations in the morning. Flyers need to be distributed, and arguments exchanged during the Left's campaign to engage voters and highlight the importance of social justice and peace over military matters in local governance.
