New York Knicks Poised to Secure Giannis Antetokounmpo in Stunning Trade Deal
The NBA world is abuzz with rumours of a potential blockbuster trade involving Milwaukee Bucks star forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the New York Knicks. According to reports, this trade would be a three-team deal involving the Brooklyn Nets as well.
The Knicks, who are seeking to break the championship drought that has lasted since 1999, are reportedly in the running to acquire Antetokounmpo. In this proposed trade scenario, the Knicks would receive the Greek Freak, while the Bucks would receive a substantial package in return.
The Bucks would be acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns, Danny Wolf, and multiple future first-round pick swaps from the Knicks and Brooklyn Nets (2026, 2028, and 2030 first-round swaps). However, the trade is complicated by salary cap rules and the recent contract extension of Mikal Bridges, which places trade restrictions on him until the trade deadline period.
The Knicks, in order to match the salary of Antetokounmpo's $54.1 million, might have to trade either Towns or Bridges. It's important to note that Bridges, who signed a four-year, $150 million contract extension with the Knicks last month, is not part of the trade proposal at this stage.
The Nets would facilitate the trade by absorbing excess salaries, receiving Josh Hart and two second-round draft picks - one from the Bucks and one from the Knicks. The remaining three years and $63 million left on Hart's current deal would be absorbed by the Nets.
It's worth mentioning that the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and other teams also have odds to acquire Antetokounmpo, with the Brooklyn Nets having the fourth-best odds (+600). The Knicks have the best odds (+100) to acquire Antetokounmpo if he requests a trade, according to Bovada Sportsbook.
This trade scenario represents the best-documented framework as of mid-August 2025. However, it's important to note that the trade proposal does not specify if the Knicks would need to give up any other assets or players in addition to the draft swaps and Karl-Anthony Towns.
As the trade deadline approaches, we'll keep a close eye on this developing story and bring you updates as they become available. The NBA offseason is shaping up to be an exciting one!
