In the heart of Little Rock, Arkansas, the Clinton School of Public Service played host to an engaging and exciting public program on Wednesday, as journalists Josh Dawsey and Tyler Pager discussed their new book, "2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America."

The event, moderated by James L. "Skip" Rutherford III, dean emeritus at the Clinton School, brought together a diverse audience of approximately 215 community members. Among the attendees were notable figures such as Thomas Franklin "Mack" McLarty III, a former chief of staff under President Bill Clinton, and Judd Deere, a former deputy press secretary under President Trump.

Victoria M. DeFrancesco Soto, dean of the Clinton School, emphasised the event's nonpartisan environment and the book's importance in understanding the current political climate. She praised Dawsey and Pager as two of the most talented reporters covering Washington politics and the country.

Dawsey, who was asked to work in his White House position thanks to Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has known both Pager and Deere for a long time. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to speak at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville during his last trip to Arkansas in 2019.

Pager, on his first trip to Arkansas, spent time exploring the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, finding the state's rich political history a fitting backdrop for the event. He enjoyed seeing figures he knew from the Biden and Harris campaigns who were part of Clinton's campaign and White House staff.

Pager stated that it takes plenty of work and preparation to come to an event in person, but he found the experience rewarding. He expressed that connecting with people in person, as they did at the event, complements other media forms to connect readers with their book.

The book, co-written with Isaac Arnsdorf, senior White House reporter at The Washington Post, begins with the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago for classified documents in August 2022. It delves into the events that followed, providing a comprehensive analysis of the 2024 presidential election landscape.

Patrick Newton, director of marketing and communications at the school, stated that the event was part of the school's mission to host engaging and exciting public programs. He mentioned that a mutual friend suggested Little Rock as a location for the event due to its energetic crowd.

As the authors tour with the book in 2023, they continue to share their insights and perspectives on the current political climate, offering readers a unique and in-depth look at the future of American politics.
