New York City's chief medical examiner's office has announced the identification of three more individuals who perished in the 9/11 attacks
Three More Victims of the September 11th Terror Attacks Identified
After more than two decades, the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has made a significant breakthrough in identifying three more victims of the September 11th terror attacks. The newly identified victims are Ryan Fitzgerald from Floral Park, NY, Barbara Keating of Palm Springs, CA, and an adult woman whose name is being withheld at the request of her family.
These identifications, announced on August 7, 2025, mark the first new victims identified since this period, according to the OCME. The total number of positively identified victims now stands at 1,653 out of 2,753 killed at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
The DNA samples were analyzed using advanced technology, and the remains, which were recovered in 2001 and 2002, were compared to the samples. The new identifications were the result of ongoing outreach to families for DNA reference samples.
The commitment to identify the missing victims of the World Trade Center attacks still stands strong. New York Mayor Eric Adams made a statement about the three new identifications, expressing his condolences to the families and reaffirming the city's dedication to finding answers for all those affected by the tragic events of September 11th.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jason Graham also made a statement, expressing his gratitude for the families' continued cooperation and the hard work of the OCME staff. He emphasized that the effort to identify every victim will continue, despite the passage of time and challenges in DNA recovery.
Sadly, about 1,100 victims, or around 40% of those who died on 9/11, remain unidentified. The OCME and city officials remain committed to working with families to identify these remaining victims through science and sustained outreach.
This news brings comfort to families still aching from the September 11th terror attacks, offering a glimmer of hope and closure in their long journey towards healing.
