New York City taxi mishap leaves Emmy-winning actress with a fractured kneecap.

Jean Smart, the Emmy-winning actor, had a close call in New York City last month when she took a fall on the streets of the city. The incident occurred while she was trying to flag down a taxi outside Macy’s.

Smart was hospitalized and it was later confirmed that she had broken her kneecap. The fall forced her to take a break from her one-woman show "Call Me Izzy," which she was performing at Studio 54.

However, despite the seriousness of the injury, Smart was able to return to work sooner than expected, wearing a leg brace. She needed assistance to move on stage, with the crew transporting her to a chair and propping up her leg.

The fall also caused concern for Smart, as she expressed worry about paparazzi taking pictures of her after the incident.

In a recent interview on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Smart spoke about the incident and thanked her fans for their support. She also mentioned that her older son, Connor, had written a complaint to the city about a hazardous part of the road that caused her fall.

The city immediately went out and fixed the hazardous part of the road mentioned by Smart. It was later confirmed that the object that caused her fall was a known hazard that causes similar accidents daily, as another person also tripped over the same thing shortly after her fall.

"Call Me Izzy" is a play in which Smart plays a writer in an abusive relationship who finds herself after turning to poetry. The play is currently in its 12-week run in New York City and will close on Aug. 24.

Smart underwent surgical repair for her broken kneecap on the 8th of July. Despite the setback, she has shown resilience and determination in her recovery and return to work.

The city's swift response to fix the hazardous part of the road mentioned by Smart highlights the need for improved public safety, particularly when it comes to general-news-worthy incidents like accidents involving celebrities.
