New Vancouver Canucks head coach Adam Foote reveling in his training camp experience
New Era Begins for Vancouver Canucks Under Adam Foote
After a challenging 2024-25 season that saw the Canucks miss the playoffs by six points, a new chapter is unfolding for the team. Adam Foote, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Colorado Avalanche, has taken over as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks.
Foote's approach to coaching comes from his rich playing experience, and he has already made an impact on the team. Elias Pettersson, a key player for the Canucks, noted that Foote talks more as a head coach compared to his previous role. Jake DeBrusk, another player, stated that Foote hasn't changed much since joining the Canucks.
Pettersson, who struggled with injuries last season and had 15 goals and 30 assists across 64 games, is a player the Canucks are eager to get back to his peak form. Foote has shown a keen interest in Pettersson's progress, stating that he wants the best for him and they have had previous one-on-one discussions.
The second group of players had to deal with bad ice due to a timing snafu, but the first day of training camp was otherwise a mix of drills, sweat, and smiles. Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes praised the day, and many Canucks fans were present in the stands, eagerly watching the team's progress.
Foote plans to use training camp to get players back up to an NHL pace and implement the team's systems and structure. Personnel issues led to centre J.T. Miller being dealt to the New York Rangers, but Foote is confident that the team will adapt to their opponents and not play one static style.
Foote met with Demko, Hughes, and Pettersson in Michigan to discuss the best ways to approach the 2025-26 campaign. He was joined by assistant coach Rick Tocchet, who will help improve the leadership of the team. Foote joined the Canucks as an assistant coach in January 2023.
Adam Foote understands that there will always be details that need to be perfected, and he is determined to help the Canucks rebound after a difficult season. The Canucks finished with a 38-30-14 record in the previous season, and getting back to the playoffs will be a top priority for the team.
As the Canucks continue their training camp, fans and players alike are looking forward to the new season under the leadership of Adam Foote.
