New single "Lazarus" from the band Das Ich, after a 15-year hiatus
After a 15-year hiatus, German darkwave band Das Ich has returned with a new single, "Lazarus," and an upcoming album titled "Fanal." The single, released on August 15, serves as a symbolic "first beacon" or "first sign of life" from the band and offers a pulsating work between electronic cacophony and classical chamber orchestra.
The single is part of a 3-track set, featuring three different versions: the original single version, the Himmelfahrt version, and the Erweckung remix. Each version offers a distinct listening experience while maintaining the core thematic and sonic identity of "Lazarus."
- The original single version is the standard edition of the track, combining electronic and classical elements as intended by the band.
- The Himmelfahrt version delivers a stronger, darker club intensity, emphasizing more energetic, danceable elements.
- The Erweckung Remix adds more dynamic depth and creates a deep, dark electrified soundscape, enhancing atmospheric aspects.
"Lazarus" explores themes of resurrection, death, blasphemy, and turning away from God. In the band’s words, “In the darkest perversion, the resurrected becomes the herald of death. ‘Blessed are those who renounce God’ — God himself commands the turning away from Him.”
Das Ich, founded in 1989 by Stefan Ackermann and Bruno Kramm in Bayreuth, Germany, became one of the defining acts of Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (New German Death Art) in the early 1990s. Known for their orchestral industrial sound and theatrical live performances, the band's upcoming album "Fanal" promises to continue this signature style, combining electronic cacophony with classical chamber orchestra elements, creating a dark, theatrical soundscape with religious provocation and intense orchestration. The album title "Fanal" means "beacon," symbolizing a new signal or sign of life from the band after a long hiatus.
The upcoming album is scheduled for release on October 31, 2025.
