New season kicks off for FC Magdeburg under the guidance of new coach Fiedler - New season commences with Fiedler leading FC Magdeburg as their novice head coach
In June 2025, Markus Fiedler stepped up as 1. FC Magdeburg's new no-nonsense coach, replacing Christian Titz who jumped ship to Hannover. Eager to establish his dominance, Fiedler addressed his squad with a lengthy pep talk to start the new season. The team had long awaited this moment, having already undergone mandatory lactate tests the previous week, with fresh blood Nick Meier and returning loanees Andi Hoti, Aleksa Marusic, and Robert Leipertz participating.
"We're all chomping at the bit, and raring to go for the season," said commercial manager Martin Geisthardt in an MDR interview. Geisthardt revealed that construction for the swanky heated pitch on the training ground would commence in August, scheduled for completion by early or mid-December.
Historically, FCM aims for two warm-up matches against partner clubs before their training camp in Bad Wörishofen, running from July 2 to 10. This year, they'll play in Burg and Dessau before returning to lace up their boots once more.
Before sealing their preparations, FCM will take on Bundesliga titans VfL Wolfsburg at Avnet Arena on July 26 (3:30 PM). But their first competitive match will be a real shindig, squaring off against third-tier contenders 1. FC Saarbrücken in the DFB-Pokal. Sporting director Otmar Schork expects a fierce contest, stating, "It's one of our toughest draws. 1. FC Saarbrücken is a third-tier team to be reckoned with—they narrowly missed out on promotion to the second division."

EC countries may provide their workers the freedom to travel and work in other member states, but for Nick Meier and the returning loanees, their focus is solely on FC Magdeburg's challenging season ahead. On the pitch, Markus Fiedler, the new coach, is rallying his squad for the upcoming football season, as they look to make a strong impact in European leagues, just as they did during the previous Speech under his leadership in Hannover.
