Initial talks in July 2025 between Sargis Adamyan and VfL Osnabrück seemed promising, with the striker expressing his willingness to move. However, the transfer has effectively collapsed due to contractual and financial disagreements.

Adamyan, who currently earns €1 million at 1. FC Köln, had demanded a salary of around €200,000 per season from Osnabrück, a figure that the club could not match. Adamyan also insisted on compensation for the wage difference, a demand that Köln's sporting director Thomas Kessler was unwilling to fully cover, despite increasing the offer.

External sponsors recruited by Osnabrück’s coach Timo Schultz could not bridge the financial gap, leading Adamyan to refuse to terminate his contract without a substantial payout. As a result, the transfer is considered definitively off as of August 14, 2025[1][3][4].

While Adamyan continues to train with Köln's U21 squad, his future with the club appears uncertain. Köln's coaching staff has signaled that Adamyan has no future role in the first team, and the club would prefer to remove him from the payroll if a solution were found[1][2].

With the summer transfer window closing in about four weeks, VfL Osnabrück is left with a depleted striker pool. Bernd Riesselmann, Nikky Goguadze, and Luc Ihorst are the only three strikers in the squad. Kai Proger and Ismail Badjie, potential offensive players for Osnabrück, prefer a run-up or coming in from the wing rather than playing as strikers.

The lack of quality in the striker position is a concern for Osnabrück, particularly in terms of depth and height. This is evident in their goalless draw in the season opener at home against Alemannia Aachen. A better goal tally would be desirable in the long term, and a concrete result in Munich would be important for Osnabrück in the short term.

TSV 1860 Munich, a strong promotion candidate, will pose a tough challenge for Osnabrück on Saturday. The team boasts prominent reinforcements like Kevin Volland and Florian Niederlechner. Sargis Adamyan, who would have been a valuable addition to Osnabrück's offense, is no longer an option due to the contractual issues.

Despite the setback, Osnabrück's primary focus for the second year after relegation from the 2. Bundesliga remains stability and avoiding the bottom regions of the table. Coach Schultz would welcome a new striker as soon as possible to bolster the team's chances.
