New program helps Filipino delivery riders own motorcycles for better livelihoods
A new partnership aims to support thousands of Filipino delivery workers by helping them acquire motorcycles. BDO Unibank, Inc. and Unistar Credit and Finance Corporation have joined forces to finance 68,409 motorcycle units. These riders, often called pandemic heroes, rely on bikes for their livelihoods and daily mobility.
The collaboration establishes the BDO-Unistar Motorcycle Foundation, designed to assist workers in delivery, logistics, and transport. Many of these riders have kept essential services running, delivering goods to homes and businesses around the clock.
Unistar's motorcycle brand, Transcycle, operates 280 branches nationwide. Over half of these are in the Visayas and Mindanao regions, where demand for affordable transport is high. Owning a motorcycle gives riders greater independence, better earnings, and the freedom to move efficiently. The programme targets hardworking and honest workers who depend on bikes for their income. By making motorcycles more accessible, the partnership hopes to strengthen their financial stability and job security.
The initiative will provide 68,409 motorcycles to eligible riders across the Philippines. With more branches in Visayas and Mindanao, the foundation expects to reach workers in underserved areas. This support comes as recognition of their relentless service, especially during the pandemic.
