William Shatner Falls Coy on Mars Mission, Laughs Off Trump's 51st State Jab
New Prime Minister of Canada faces potential negotiation with William Shatner over proposed initiatives
jesse watters primetime gets the lowdown from William Shatner on President Donald Trump's ambitious plans for Canada and his personal space exploration adventures.
Canadian actor William Shatner playfully suggested a counter-offer for Prime Minister Mark Carney to contemplate when the former resisted President Trump's attempt to convert Canada into the USA's 51st state.
During a White House meeting, Trump implied that he'd be open to negotiations. "I would make a counter-offer, let Canada be the 11th province," Shatner mused to Jesse Watters Primetime.
But, is Trump genuinely looking to add Canada to the Union? Shatner believes otherwise. "Everyone's taking it so seriously, it's an un-serious offer," he quipped, referring to Canada's 150-year history and noble service.
Reflecting on Trump's persistence, Shatner compared it to the tale of former President Joe Biden repeatedly trying to win his wife's heart. "Yes, but at a certain point, persistence becomes insulting," he said, dubbing the 51st state debate a "spurious fight."
Moving on, Watters probed Shatner's interest in Mars, following SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's intent to turn the Red Planet into an existential safety net for humanity. Shatner admits the question is fraught with implications, much like the ongoing Canada debate. He ponders, "What is it that mankind searches for, never content, like making one offer after another to Canada?"
With Neil deGrasse Tyson on his radar, Shatner plans to discuss the Mars question at an upcoming unscripted concert in Seattle, quipping, "I'll ise that opportunity to ask Neil deGrasse Tyson about it in June."
As for his own space escapades, Shatner received global attention by becoming the oldest space traveler aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket in 2021. Reminiscing about the experience, Shatner described it as an "almost funeral-like" event.
Shatner continues to produce documentaries like "The UnXplained" on the History Channel to delve into the world's most intriguing phenomena. Currently, the 94-year-old actor is prepping for his Hollywood Charity Horse Show, where he's raised millions for charity, promising a party on May 31.
