New Leadership at Communications Authority of Kenya (CA): Charles Kamau Karondo Takes Over

There has been a significant change in leadership at the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), the key regulatory body in the country's ICT sector. President William Ruto has appointed Charles Kamau Karondo as the new Chairperson of the CA, effective from August 8, 2025.

The Gazette Notice No. 11969, published on the same day, formalized the changes. This notice explicitly mentions the revocation of Mary Wambui Mungai's appointment as the Chairperson of the CA and the start of Charles Kamau Karondo's term.

Mary Wambui Mungai had been in the CA Chair position since December 2022. However, her appointment has been revoked, and she has been appointed as Chairperson of the Athi Water Works Development Agency Board, also effective from August 8, 2025.

Charles Kamau Karondo's appointment as the non-executive Chairperson of the CA is for a period of three years, as stated in the Gazette Notice. The appointment was made under section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.

The CA is responsible for regulating various sectors in Kenya, including telecommunications, broadcasting, e-commerce, and postal services. With this new leadership, the authority is expected to continue its role in fostering a competitive and efficient ICT sector in Kenya.
