In a thrilling European Super Cup final, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) emerged victorious against Tottenham Hotspur, securing their fifth title of the year. The match, played at Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy on August 13, 2025, saw a standout performance from the new goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier.

Chevalier, who joined PSG from Lille for around €40-55 million, made his official debut for the club in this high-stakes encounter. His performance was nothing short of impressive, particularly in the penalty shootout where he saved a crucial penalty from Dutchman Micky van de Ven. This decisive moment helped PSG win the final 4:3 on penalties.

Throughout the game, PSG's high-speed attacks were neutralized by Tottenham's compact five-man defense for much of the match. The score remained 2:2 after regular play and 0:1 for Tottenham in the first half. Goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero gave Tottenham a two-goal lead, but PSG fought back with two late goals from Kang-In Lee and Goncalo Ramos.

The decision by PSG coach Luis Enrique to sign Chevalier and demote Gianluigi Donnarumma during the summer break caused a stir. Donnarumma, who was left out of the squad for this match, now seems to be on his way to Manchester City. Enzo Raiola, Donnarumma's agent, criticized PSG's treatment of the goalkeeper just hours before the kick-off.

It was a challenging game for PSG, but they managed to overcome Tottenham's defense in the late stages of the game. The winning penalty for PSG was scored by Portuguese player Nuno Mendes. The Super Cup final marked Chevalier's first trophy in the PSG colors, a promising start to his tenure with the club.

Despite losing the Club World Cup against FC Chelsea, PSG have had a successful year, winning the French league, cup, and now the Super Cup. This victory further cements their status as one of Europe's top football clubs.
