New Owner for High-Rise Complex in Göttingen - New Owner for High-Rise Complex in Göttingen
A troubled high-rise in Göttingen is set for major improvements after a change in ownership. The city has confirmed that Hamburg-based real estate firm Sivius, through its local subsidiary Göttinger Quartiersgesellschaft, now holds the majority stake in the 400-plus apartment complex near Göttingen Central Station. Years of neglect, including broken heating, faulty lifts, and recurring fires, have left residents in difficult conditions—but officials now promise a fresh start.
The residential tower at Groner Landstraße 9 has suffered from severe disrepair for years. Tenants faced unlivable conditions, with nonfunctional heating, broken elevators, piles of rubbish, and multiple fires. The situation worsened after the former majority owner declared insolvency, leaving property management without funds for repairs due to unpaid rent.
Sivius stepped in by establishing Göttinger Quartiersgesellschaft to acquire the building. While the managing director, Taha Jacobi, has outlined plans for a full renovation, the name of the company’s CEO remains undisclosed in public records as of December 2025. The city, led by Mayor Petra Broistedt (SPD), has made clear that improving residents’ quality of life is the top priority. Cleanup work has already begun, with security staff now enforcing building rules. Göttingen officials have welcomed the new owner’s commitment, signalling hope for long-overdue upgrades to the troubled complex.
The takeover marks a turning point for the high-rise, which has struggled with neglect and mismanagement. With Sivius now in control, renovations are expected to address years of decay. The city and new ownership have pledged to restore basic living standards for the hundreds of residents affected.
