New Mexico State University retaliates against University of New Mexico volleyball team
The University of New Mexico (UNM) Lobos volleyball team suffered a tough loss in their latest match, a five-set battle against the New Mexico State Aggies on Sept. 23. The Aggies emerged victorious with a score of 25-18, 23-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-7 at the Pan American Center.
In the match, Gioia Riccato led the Lobos with 13 kills, while four players finished in double figures. Tess Fuqua, on the other hand, had a match-high 17 kills for the Aggies. Nellie Reese and Maggie Lightheart each contributed four aces for the Aggies, while the Lobos managed only one ace throughout the match.
The Lobos had a chance to sweep the series with the Aggies at 23-23 in set four, but the Aggies rallied to force a fifth set. From there, the Aggies effectively kept UNM out of system in the final two sets, never looking back for the victory.
Addison France posted a triple-double for the Lobos with 10 kills, 14 assists, and 17 digs. Reagan Miller finished with 10 kills for UNM, and Seenane Brewer had 11.
The loss marks the end of UNM's non-conference play, and their conference schedule begins on Sept. 25 against Utah State. The match, scheduled for a 7 p.m. home game, will be the Lobos' first conference match of the season.
The Lobos will look to bounce back and start their conference play on a positive note against the Utah State Aggies. Fans can catch the action live at home as the Lobos aim to turn the tables on their opponents.
