Major General Abubakar steps into the role as the 15th Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), following successful tenures with Major General Waidi Shaibu.
Recently, the handover ceremony took place at the Headquarters Theatre Command in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, on 28 April 2025. According to a statement by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Massive operations lie ahead.
Major General Abubakar brings more than a decade of operational, command, and instructional experience to his new role. Having served in various capacities, including Commander Sector 3 OPHK and Multinational Joint Task Force in Mungono, General Officer Commanding 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 OPHK Maiduguri, and General Officer Commanding 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, he's well-equipped for the task at hand.
His most recent post was as Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies at the National Defence College, Abuja. This strategic move places a veteran right in the hot seat for Operation Hadin Kai.
In his farewell address, Major General Shaibu thanked the officers and personnel for their cooperation and described his tenure as a journey of experiences, marked by numerous operations in terrorists' enclaves. He emphasized the importance of continuing to fight with dedication and professionalism to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Shaibu also urged the troops to extend the same cooperation and loyalty to his successor.
