New Latin America Accelerator Backs Carbon Removal Startups Without Equity Demands
The remove carbon dioxide removal (CDR) accelerator program announced plans to start providing support to startups active in this sector in Latin America.
In the announcement, remove shares that its team is excitedly getting ready to expand the accelerator program to Latin American countries.
Similar to the other regional remove programs, the LatAm Accelerator program will be rolled out in two stages, called Foundations and Leap.
The accelerator program will last eight months, during which remove will guide startups through the nascent CDR space.
This support will include coaching sessions, as well as connection-building with technology and policy experts, leading CDR buyers, verification bodies, and fundraising professionals.
In the Foundations stage, startups will get a fast-paced deep dive into the CDR ecosystem, where they will learn about LatAm-relevant carbon markets and CDR policy, the buyer's perspective, and issues with monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV).
They will also receive guidance on refining their value proposition and addressing obstacles, wrapping up the Foundations stage with a Pitch Day, which forms part of the application process for the Leap stage.
For the startups that show commercial traction and are approved to advance to the Leap stage, the accelerator program will offer a purchase agreement for over $17,000 (€15,000). The announcement clarifies that for enablers, remove offers a recoverable grant, and the accelerator does not take equity.
While the first stage has a more regional focus, in the second stage of the accelerator program, startups are introduced to a global cohort of CDR startups.
Leveraging generous financial support from the Milkywire Climate Transformation Fund (CTF) to create the Latin America Accelerator program, remove aims to catalyze local innovation, ecosystem growth, and the development of a carbon removal market in this global region.
