BMW F 450 GS: A New Mid-Range Adventure Tourer
The motorcycling world is abuzz with excitement as BMW Motorrad prepares to launch the BMW F 450 GS. This new adventure tourer is set to hit the market by late 2025, filling the gap between the G 310 GS and the F 800 GS in global markets.
At its heart lies a newly developed 450cc parallel-twin engine, liquid-cooled and tuned for strong low-end torque, capable of making approximately 48 horsepower at 8,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, with an option for BMW's Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) semi-automatic transmission to aid newcomers.
The BMW F 450 GS boasts a steel bridge trellis frame, a bolt-on rear subframe, and an aluminium swing-arm, providing a robust foundation for its adventure-focused design. Upfront, you'll find upside-down (USD) front forks with adjustability, while the rear is equipped with a monoshock suspension. Standard cast aluminium alloys sized 19 inches front and 17 inches rear offer a blend of road-hugging performance and off-road durability, with wire-spoked rims and tubeless tires expected as an option.
The bike tips the scales at approximately 175–178 kg, striking a balance between lightweight agility and sufficient touring range, with a fuel tank capacity of around 12–14 liters. Ground clearance stands at about 220 mm, suitable for moderate off-road use.
The design of the BMW F 450 GS remains true to the classic BMW GS adventure styling, with a prominent front beak and tall windscreen. Split-style seats provide two-up comfort, while high-set handlebars and neutral footpeg positioning ensure a relaxed riding posture. The exhaust features the same twin-pipe design, but the muffler has been lowered.
Modern electronics abound, with a colour TFT instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, lean-sensitive ABS (ABS Pro) for improved safety during cornering, lean-sensitive traction control, and selectable riding modes enhancing versatility across terrains. The bike also comes equipped with a 6.5-inch TFT display offering smartphone connectivity for call and message notifications, media playback control, and turn-by-turn navigation.
The BMW F 450 GS is designed to be versatile enough for city commutes, weekend touring, and moderate off-road adventure, targeting beginner to intermediate riders seeking a smoother, confident riding experience. The adventure tourer will have three riding modes that can be freely configured based on the rider's terrain and performance preferences.
The BMW F 450 GS represents a strong mid-range adventure option, set to debut at EICMA and marking a noteworthy new contender in the segment. In India, it will serve as the entry point to BMW Motorrad's adventure motorcycle lineup, with an expected price range between ₹4 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The BMW F 450 GS is anticipated to cater to various riding scenarios, including city commutes, weekend touring, and moderate off-road adventures, making it an appealing choice for beginner to intermediate riders. With approximately 48 horsepower, this mid-range adventure tourer promises a smooth and confident riding experience.
