New House Panel to Re-examine January 6 Capitol Attack

A new House panel, investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, has been established. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-MS, chairs the committee, with Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-GA, serving as vice-chair. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-CA, is the ranking member.

The panel, consisting of eight lawmakers - five Republicans and three Democrats - will re-examine the events of that day. It aims to challenge the narrative surrounding the attack and provide a comprehensive report.

President Donald Trump has accused former FBI Director Christopher Wray of lying about the presence of FBI agents during the riot. Trump cited a report claiming 274 agents were embedded in the crowds. However, FBI Director Kash Patel clarified the report, criticizing Wray's testimony.

The Justice Department Inspector General's report disputes Trump's claims about FBI agents' involvement. Wray has testified multiple times about the FBI's role on January 6th.

The new panel will investigate the January 6th attack, focusing on the narrative and providing a thorough report. It aims to shed light on the events and address the discrepancies in previous accounts.
