In an exciting development for fans of the beloved Harry Potter franchise, HBO Max has announced the cast for key roles in its upcoming series adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books.
The series, which is set to begin production this summer at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Watford, will run for about a decade with one season per book. The confirmed actors for the new series in the specified roles are:
- Albus Dumbledore: John Lithgow, a renowned US actor known for his work in "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "Dexter," will take on the role of the wise and beloved headmaster.
- Professor Minerva McGonagall: Janet McTeer, a British actress who has starred in films like "Albert Nobbs" and "Prime Suspect 1973," will portray the strict and competent Transfiguration professor.
- Professor Severus Snape: Paapa Essiedu, a talented British actor who has appeared in shows like "Press" and "Chernobyl," will play the complex and mysterious professor.

While the roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione for the new series have not been announced yet, over 32,000 children had auditioned for the chance to play these iconic characters. The original films, produced by Warner Bros. and starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as the main characters, were released in theaters between 2001 and 2011.
The Harry Potter series is a faithful adaptation of the books by J.K. Rowling, with Rowling herself serving as an executive producer for the series.
