New Grand Theft Auto 6 Outlook: Essential Insights Regarding the Upcoming Grand Theft Auto Title

Luke's Hype Hub: Who's ready for a wild ride with Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)?

The legendary open-world action franchise has sold over half a billion copies since the release of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2013, making it one of the freakin' best-selling game series ever! And the hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6? It's frickin' crazy.

Here's the lowdown on GTA 6, with all the deets we know so far.

Wanna Know What GTA 6 is?

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is the sixth main installment in the legendary Grand Theft Auto series.

Sam Houser, the dude who founded Rockstar Games, dropped this dope statement back in December 2023 along with the very first GTA 6 teaser: "Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what's possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We're thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere."

GTA 5 offered both single-player and multiplayer game modes, where you could team up and pull off epic heists, assassinate targets, pour some cash into the game's synthetic stock market, buy businesses, plunder innocent civilians, zoom around in sweet vehicles, and more.

When is GTA 6 dropping?

Rockstar Games finally spilled the beans about GTA 6's development in February 2022, and announced the official date in December 2023: it ain't gonna be released until 2026! But in May 2025, they had to push it back to May 26, 2026, citing that they need just a tad more time to deliver a game that's as epic as you're expecting.

"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," Rockstar said in a statement. "The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game."

"With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations," the statement continued. "Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception."

What platforms will GTA 6 launch on?

The game's gonna drop for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, but no PC version has been confirmed yet.

Previous GTA games have usually hit PC way later than consoles, so Zach Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two (Rockstar's parent company), ain't saying much about a potential PC version.

"So, with Civilization 7, it's available on console, PC, and Switch right away," Zelnick told IGN in February 2025. "With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then, historically, moved to other platforms."

What about the upcoming Switch 2? Well, Zelnick didn't make any specific game announcements about Switch 2, but he said Take-Two has "a plan" for the console[1].

What's been leaked about GTA 6?

In September 2022, there was a massive data leak from some cybercriminal group called Lasus$. The teenager behind the hack, a British kid named Arion Kurtaj, was forced to come clean and apologize for his actions in court[2].

The leaks contained several details about GTA 6, including the fact that the game will feature a Latina protagonist named Lucia and a white male partner named Jason. There are also suggestions that GTA 6 may be set in Vice City, a Miami-esque city that first appeared in GTA: Vice City back in 2002[3].

What's new in GTA 6?

Rumors suggest that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have a female character as its primary protagonist for the first time in the series' history[4]. This lines up with the leaks, as they do show case a Latina character named Lucia. The game also might have an "evolving" world, meaning that Rockstar could implement seasonal changes or other updates to the game over time.

In a shocking move, R&B artist T-Pain has been revealed to play a role in GTA 6, probably as a voice actor or a character within the game's world[5].

Will GTA 6 support crypto?

The rumors about GTA 6 featuring crypto have been flying around for ages, but they ain't confirmed yet. Hang tight, you crypto heads. We'll keep you posted.

Take-Two CEO Zelnick assures us that whatever they cook up for GTA 6, it's gonna be a massive success. "I never claim victory before it occurs," he told the Financial Times. "That said, I think Rockstar Games will once again deliver something absolutely phenomenal."

So there you go, folks! That's the latest on GTA 6. Get ready to grab the wheel and experience the biggest, wildest, craziest ride in Grand Theft Auto history in May 2026!
