New German App *Zonar* Maps Weapon Ban Zones in Real Time
A new app called Zonar is set to launch in Germany, helping users track knife and weapon ban zones across the country. Developed by the German Association of Gunsmiths and Firearms Dealers (VDB), the tool aims to clarify confusing local regulations. The move comes as the group challenges recent laws that restrict carrying weapons in public spaces.
Since September 2020, German authorities have had the power to designate public areas as weapon-free zones. A nationwide ban on weapons at all public events, including Christmas markets, followed a month later. These rules allow fines of up to €10,000 for violations.
The Zonar app will offer real-time updates on local knife and weapon bans. Users can check restrictions before entering public spaces to avoid penalties. Meanwhile, the VDB continues to push back against laws it sees as unnecessary and poorly enforced.
