Film about the sexual abuse scandal in production - New Film 'The Girl' Revisits Samantha Geimer's Story of Survival After Polanski Abuse

A new film titled 'The Girl' will explore the story of Samantha Geimer, who was abused by Roman Polanski at the age of 13. The project is based on her memoir, 'The Girl: A Life in the Shadow of Roman Polanski', and marks the feature-length debut of French filmmaker Marina Ziolkowski.

Geimer herself has expressed support for the film, which aims to present her perspective on the events of 1977.

In 1977, director Roman Polanski was charged with drugging and raping 13-year-old Samantha Geimer. The case drew international attention, though public records offer little on its long-term impact on Polanski's career or legal standing across different countries.

Now, decades later, 'The Girl' will retell Geimer's experience through her own words. Ziolkowski, making her first full-length film, will both write and direct the adaptation. Production is scheduled to start later this year in California.

The cast includes 13-year-old actress Carolyn Kachen, who will play the young Geimer. Dree Hemingway has been chosen to portray Geimer's mother, Susan, while Gore Abrams will take on the role of her stepfather, Bob.

The film will bring Geimer's memoir to the screen with her direct backing. Casting is complete, and filming is set to begin soon. Once released, it will offer a first-hand account of a case that remains one of the most discussed in Hollywood history.
