New Exhibition Unveils the Hidden Bond Between Wine and Forestry in Ortenau

A new exhibition exploring the deep ties between wine and forestry in the Ortenau region opens on March 29, 2026. The Vogtsbauernhof Open-Air Museum in Gutach will unveil 'WWW – A World Between Wine and Forest' as part of its expanded focus on the area's cultural landscape. The display marks the latest step in the museum's five-year push to modernise with interactive and multimedia experiences.

The 100-square-metre exhibition traces the history of the region between the Rhine Plain and the Black Forest. At its heart sits a multimedia landscape model, designed to bring the area's story to life for visitors of all ages. Alongside this, a dedicated 'Wein & Wald' section highlights the symbiotic relationship between viticulture and forestry, covering topics like historical terrace farming, biodiversity, and sustainable woodland management.

Families will find hands-on activities throughout the display. On opening day, guests can craft traditional bird deterrents or visit a chick station to follow the journey from egg to chicken. The museum's Easter programme, running from March 29 to April 12, will offer daily children's activities. The day's events will close with an open-air service, themed around the museum's annual focus. This new exhibition builds on the Vogtsbauernhof's recent efforts to blend education with engagement, using interactive modules and digital stations to deepen visitors' understanding of daily life in the Ortenau.

The exhibition expands the museum's exploration of regional heritage, combining history with practical experiences. Visitors will leave with a clearer picture of how wine and forestry have shaped the Ortenau's landscape and traditions. The programme runs through the Easter holidays, with activities tailored for younger audiences.
