New Design Challenge Pushes Boundaries in Security Tech Innovation
A new design challenge has launched, calling on engineers and makers to develop security and surveillance prototypes. The competition, run by element14 and Analog Devices Inc. (ADI), will provide participants with free hardware to build their solutions. Organisers hope to spark innovation in areas like facial recognition, environmental monitoring, and remote security systems.
The challenge centres on ADI's MAX32630FTHR development platform, paired with Würth Elektronik's SMD LEDs featuring an integrated WL-ICLED controller. Selected entrants will receive a free kit containing these components to assemble their test rigs or prototypes.
Participants must document their progress and final designs through blogs on the element14 Community platform. The aim is to highlight creative problem-solving in security applications, from voice and face detection to crowd sentiment analysis and break-in prevention.
Andreea Teodorescu, Global Director of Product Marketing & element14 Community, emphasised the challenge's focus on innovation. Stéphane Di Vito, ADI Distinguished Engineer for Product Security, also shared enthusiasm for the partnership, calling it an opportunity to explore fresh ideas in security technology.
As of 9 March 2026, the number of participants remains undisclosed. Submission deadlines are usually set three to six months after launch, with details available on the official challenge pages.
The winners will be chosen based on their prototype's functionality, creativity, and documentation. Successful designs could influence future developments in smart surveillance, access control, and automated security systems. Further updates, including deadlines and judging criteria, will be announced on the element14 and ADI websites.
