Tit for Tat in Ukraine: Putin's Latest Demands
Vladimir Putin, the Russian dictator, was in high spirits over the weekend, toasting to Ukraine's impending downfall with a glass of champagne, stating that Ukraine had nothing worth having. The tension between Russia and Ukraine, which has been simmering for over 21 months, continues to grow as Putin demands further concessions from Ukraine before entering negotiations.
Moscow's Unexpected Requests
Spokeswoman for the Foreign Office, Maria Zakharova, echoed Putin's sentiments by stating that western nations must cease the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and the country must hand over or return any weapons it has received from the West under Russian control.
But this is just the start of Russia's demands, which include:
- Recognition of the new territorial realities: Ukraine would have to acknowledge the territory Russia has unlawfully annexed as part of Russia, including thousands of square kilometers still under Ukrainian control.
- Withdrawal from Russian territories: Fighting surrendering, Ukraine would need to vacate these territories and stop supporting Ukrainian fighters.
For Ukraine, these demands would essentially mean its demise, with large portions of the Zaporizhia, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions controlled by Russia. Over 1 million Ukrainian citizens currently reside in these areas.
Ukraine's Strong Stance
In response to Russia's demands, Ukraine's determination remains unwavering. With no intention of surrendering without a fight, Ukraine will continue to put up strong resistance.
Any concession from Ukraine would simply provide Russia with the excuse to take further control. Unfortunately, Putin's "negotiations" remain unrealistic to the international community, as the dictator's claims of peace talks are mere wishful thinking.
