New BBC Doc 'Bowie In Berlin' Explores Star's Transformative Years

A new BBC documentary, 'Bowie In Berlin', is set to delve into David Bowie's transformative years in the city, marking both the 50th anniversary of his relocation and the tenth anniversary of his passing. Scheduled for autumn 2026, the documentary promises fresh insights into Bowie's personal growth and artistic evolution.

Directed by Francis Whately, who previously helmed other Bowie documentaries, and with Louis Theroux serving as executive producer, 'Bowie In Berlin' will focus on Bowie's move to the city in 1976 to overcome his cocaine addiction and reignite his career. This period saw the creation of the 'Berlin trilogy' and iconic albums like 'Heroes'.

The documentary will feature interviews with four women who were close to Bowie during his time in Berlin but have remained largely silent until now. Romy Haag, Claire Shenstone, Sarah-Rena Hine, and Sydne Rome will share their perspectives on Bowie's personal growth and artistic regeneration. Moving away from his earlier personas, Bowie embraced his true identity during this time, leading to a creative resurgence.

With its release timed to coincide with the significant anniversaries, 'Bowie In Berlin' promises to shed new light on a pivotal period in the legendary artist's life and career. Fans can expect a deeper understanding of Bowie's transformation and the creation of some of his most enduring work.
