President Bola Tinubu Shuffles Leadership in Regional Development Commissions and Passes Tax Reform Bills
New appointments affirmed by President Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made some moves, folks! In a flurry of decisions, he's appointed the heads of the recently established regional development commissions.
Miss Usoro Akpabio is now the Managing Director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC), with Chibudom Nwuche taking the reins as Chairman.
Our sources suggest that President Tinubu has also appointed Dr. Charles Akinola as the Managing Director of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) and Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi as Chairman.
Moving to the North Central Development Commission, Barrister Cyril Tsenyil steps in as Managing Director, and Cosmas Akiyir becomes the Chairman.
In a senate session, a letter from President Tinubu was read, requesting lawmakers to confirm these appointments. All the while, the Senate has been busy passing the remaining tax reform bills proposed by the President's administration.
Last week, two out of the four bills were approved, and just yesterday, the remaining two tax reform bills were gleefully passed. The Senate will now harmonize these bills in a joint committee, after which they'll transitions to President Tinubu for his signature if all goes as planned.
The four tax reform bills include the Nigeria Tax Bill, 2025, which is set to reduce the Company Income Tax (CIT) rate from 30% to 27.5% starting in 2025[1][3][5]. It also plans to consolidate existing taxation legal frameworks in Nigeria[5].
The Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, 2025 will establish entities such as the Tax Appeal Tribunal and the Office of the Tax Ombudsman, aiming to harmonize and coordinate tax administration across Nigeria[5].
Two other bills, the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill and the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, were previously approved by the Senate[4].
Stay tuned for more updates as these key appointments and tax reforms shape the future of our country!
