New Appointment: Werder to RB Leipzig - Werner Now Leipzig's Head Coach

From Bremen to Leipzig: Ole Werner Takes Charge

After a lengthy negotiation, Werder and Leipzig agreed on the terms for Ole Werner's departure. He's now inked a deal with Leipzig until 2027.

Marcel Schäfer, RBL's managing director, praised Werner in a club statement, stating, "Ole embodies a crystal-clear playing philosophy that he's executed effectively in Kiel and Bremen." He went on to say, "Speedy, structured possession football, swift transition following ball wins, intense pressing, tactical adaptability, and brave, determined, and feisty showings."

Ole Werner expressed his delight at the agreement between Werder and Leipzig, looking forward to leading the Saxons into the new season. In our in-depth discussions, it was clear that both parties shared similar views on playing styles and work approaches, making the decision to embark on this journey together effortless.

Werner Replaces Zsolt Löw

Werner takes over from Zsolt Löw in Leipzig, who had stepped in as the interim coach during the final stages of the season. Löw held the role of "Head of Soccer Development" at RB but could not induce a turnaround, with Leipzig missing international competition by finishing seventh.

In his last assignment, Werner was with Werder Bremen, but the club severed ties with him in May. He joined Bremen during their second division tenure and steered them back to the top tier in 2022. Despite achievement in Bundesliga finishes (13th, 9th, and 8th), they fell just short of European qualification in the 2023/24 season. Werner, who had announced he wouldn't extend his contract set to expire in 2026, was eventually released by Bremen. Horst Steffen will take over Werner's duties in Bremen.
