Seattle Kraken names Lane Lambert as new head coach

The National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, the Seattle Kraken, announced the appointment of Lane Lambert as their third head coach on Thursday evening.

Lambert, who previously served as an associate coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2024-2025 season, brings with him rich coaching experience from the NHL.

"After an extensive search, we are delighted to announce Lane as our new head coach," said general manager Jason Botterill in a statement. The Kraken's top brass were particularly impressed by Lambert's tactical strategy and vision for the team.

Lambert, aged 60, steps into the role of NHL head coach for the second time. Previously, he led the New York Islanders to a playoff spot during the 2022-2023 season but was eliminated in the first round. He was subsequently replaced by Patrick Roy after 45 games in the following season.

In response, Lambert expressed his excitement about leading the Kraken, celebrating the prospect of writing a new chapter in his coaching career. He commended the city's fan base for their energy and support and expressed confidence in the team's mix of talented young players and veteran leadership.

Lambert marked his NHL coaching debut with the Nashville Predators, working as an assistant to Barry Trotz from 2011 to 2014. Following this stint, he moved on to the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders, contributing to significant achievements in both teams. Most notably, the Capitals clinched the Stanley Cup in 2018 under his tutelage.

Lambert's career also spans a six-season stint as a player in the NHL, where he represented the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, and Quebec Nordiques[1][2].

The Seattle Kraken, an NHL sports team, just named Lane Lambert as their new head coach, a veteran coach with rich NHL experience, including previously serving as an associate coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs and leading the New York Islanders in a playoff spot. Lambert, who also played in the NHL for six seasons, is excited to lead the Kraken with a mix of talented young players and veteran leadership and aims to replicate his previous achievements in the league.
