Prepare for a shake-up in the top echelons of NATO, as US General Alexus Grynk is poised to stake his claim as the new Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). The North Atlantic Council gave the green light to this power move at their recent gathering in Brussels, according to the announcement on online platform X.
As summer approaches, Grynk will step into the role of NATO's military commander, leading a whopping 100,000 troops stationed across Europe. Currently, three-star general Grynk is a key player on the US Joint Staff. Notably, he served diligently at the US European Command headquarters in Stuttgart from 2010 to 2012. During his tenure, he donned several hats, including that of the planning division's chief.
Traditionally, the position of SACEUR has been a US general's crown, while the NATO Secretary-General mantle falls to a European leader. In a surprising turn of events, US media buzzed that President Donald Trump was mulling over the idea of reshuffling the ranks by refusing to reappoint a US general to the post. But the die is cast, and Grynk is all set to challenge the status quo.
