New appointment announced: Khalid Jamil takes over as head coach of the Indian men's football team

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced the appointment of Khalid Jamil as the new head coach of the Indian men's football team. This marks a significant milestone for Jamil, who will lead the national team for the first time in his career.

Khalid Jamil's first assignment will be the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup, an international football tournament organised by the Central Asian Football Association. The competition is among the national teams of the member associations of the Central Asian Football Association and serves as a platform for international football competition among the national teams of Central Asia.

The CAFA Nations Cup is scheduled to start on August 29 and will be held in multiple locations, specifically Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This tournament is a significant event for the participating national teams, offering them a chance to showcase their skills on an international stage.

Jamil's appointment follows a rigorous selection process. The AIFF Technical Committee, led by IM Vijayan, shortlisted three candidates from 170 applications. The other two coaches on the shortlist were Stephen Constantine and Štefan Tarkovič.

Stephen Constantine is a British coach who has previously served two stints as India's head coach and recently coached the Pakistan national team. Štefan Tarkovič is a Slovakian manager. However, the final decision was made by the AIFF Executive Committee, who chose Khalid Jamil for the role.

It's worth noting that Khalid Jamil was previously not the head coach of the Indian men's football team. The last Indian to serve as head coach of the national men's football team was Savio Medeira, from 2011 to 2012. Khalid Jamil succeeds Manolo Marquez as the head coach of the Indian men's football team.

Currently, Khalid Jamil is with Indian Super League side Jamshedpur FC. His appointment as the head coach of the Indian men's football team comes as a testament to his dedication and hard work.

As the CAFA Nations Cup approaches, fans and supporters of Indian football are eagerly awaiting Jamil's debut as the head coach. The tournament offers a unique opportunity for the team to build momentum ahead of other international competitions.
