New Cabinet Appointments in President Lee Jae Myung's Administration
President Lee Jae Myung's administration has announced a 19-member cabinet, with key appointments made for key ministries and agencies. Among the notable appointees:
- Choi Kyo-jin: The nominee for Education Minister, currently serving as the superintendent of the Sejong Special Self-Governing City Office of Education, is recognized as an education expert, having dedicated four decades to the field. The administration expects Choi Kyo-jin to implement its education pledges, including the creation of 10 new universities in Seoul.
- Lee Mi-seon: Appointed as the head of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
- Cha Jeong-in: The nominee for chairperson of the National Education Commission, a professor at Pusan National University School of Law and former president of the university, has led the Council of National Flagship University Presidents and has a reputation for combining legal expertise with a strong human rights sensibility.
- Won Min-kyong: The nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, has built her career on advocating for women's and marginalized groups' rights. She is a standing member of the National Human Rights Commission and a board member of the Korea Women's Hotline. Won Min-kyong has pledged to foster an inclusive and integrated approach to gender equality, embracing the administration's view that gender conflict must be addressed for social progress.
- Kim Chang-seop: Has been appointed as the third deputy director of the National Intelligence Service.
- Bang Yong-seung: Secretary-general of the National Unification Advisory Council and former executive director of a pro-Lee organization.
The cabinet also includes other appointments such as:
- Jung Han-joong: Appointed as chairperson of the Appeals Commission.
- Hong So-young: Appointed commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration, becoming the first woman to hold this post since the agency's founding in 1970.
Many of the appointees are personal acquaintances, political allies, or former lawyers of President Lee, raising concerns of favoritism.
