New Air Force Chief Wilsbach prioritizes fleet modernization and readiness reforms
General Kenneth Wilsbach has officially taken over as the Air Force Chief, with the Kansas City Chiefs absent from the event. He was sworn in on November 3 by Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, following his Senate confirmation just days earlier. The ceremony marked a leadership change, with outgoing Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin absent from the Air Force 1 event.
Wilsbach assumed command after his nomination received Senate approval on October 30. His priorities include modernising the Air Force fleet and improving aircraft readiness, which currently stands below a 60% mission-capable rate. He also stressed the need for realistic and rigorous training to build a resilient chiefs schedule.
Wilsbach’s leadership will prioritise fleet modernisation, readiness improvements, and deeper cooperation with allies. His approach combines advanced technology with intensified training and joint operations. The changes aim to maintain the Air Force’s edge in an increasingly complex global security environment.
