In the heart of South Asia, Nepal is witnessing a significant shift in its political landscape, sparked by the Gen Z revolution. The youth activists have been leading the charge, demanding accountability and change, and their relentless protests have left an indelible mark on the country's political history.

The recent protests on September 8 were a testament to the growing frustration among the youth over corruption, lack of accountability, and perceived failure of political elites. These demonstrations, led by Gen Z youth activists, have resulted in a series of events that have reshaped Nepal's political sphere.

The government's ban on social media triggered these protests, but the catalyst was the Gen Z revolution that led to 74 deaths due to police using lethal force. This tragic incident further fuelled the protests, propelling the demand for change to the forefront.

Amidst the turmoil, Nepal's first woman Chief Justice, Sushila Karki, emerged as a beacon of hope. Her integrity and independence earned her the endorsement from the protesters, and she was temporarily appointed as the interim Prime Minister.

Sushila Karki's appointment marked a historic moment for Nepal, as she became the country's first woman Prime Minister. Her interim government, supported by an agreement among all political parties, has been in power since then, following intense negotiations involving the President Ram Chandra Poudel and the army chief.

Despite the challenges, Sushila Karki's tenure as interim Prime Minister will come to an end in the first week of March 2026. This will pave the way for elections to choose a new executive head, continuing the democratic process in Nepal.

The Gen Z-led movement has undeniably left a lasting impact on Nepal's political landscape. Their relentless pursuit of change has led to the appointment of Nepal's first woman Prime Minister and has set a precedent for future generations to continue the fight for a more accountable and transparent government.

However, the former Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, is currently in hiding, avoiding the repercussions of the political upheaval. His whereabouts remain unknown, but his legacy in Nepalese politics remains to be seen.

In the meantime, the focus remains on Sushila Karki and the interim government as they navigate the complex political landscape, aiming to bring about the change that the Gen Z revolution has demanded. The future of Nepal's politics hangs in the balance, and the world watches with bated breath as this South Asian nation continues its journey towards a more accountable and transparent government.
