"New addition to House of the Dragon Season 3: One of Fire & Blood's Most Electrifying Northern Characters"
House of the Dragon Season 3: The Winter Wolves Join the Battlefield
Get ready, Game of Thrones fans! The third season of House of the Dragon is expected to grace our screens next year, and it's bringing some new faces and exciting developments to Westeros.
One of the most intriguing additions to the series is the Winter Wolves, an army of 2,000 Northmen who pledge their allegiance to Rhaenyra Targaryen's cause during the turbulent civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
These seasoned warriors, led by Lord Cregan Stark, are known for their willingness to fight to the death in accordance with Northern traditions. They are a formidable force, made up largely of older soldiers and veterans who volunteer for one last fight during the harsh conditions of winter.
In Season 3, the Winter Wolves play a significant role in the military conflict, particularly in the First Battle of Tumbleton. Their participation symbolizes Northern loyalty to Rhaenyra and adds depth to the northern houses' contribution to the power struggle.
The battle scenes involving the Winter Wolves are expected to be large-scale and critical to the unfolding of the war, featuring betrayals and dramatic shifts, according to production notes and set photos.
Among the new characters joining the Winter Wolves is Ser Torrhen Manderly, played by Dan Fogler. He plays a key role in the aftermath of the Dance of the Dragons. Additionally, James Norton has been previously announced as Ormund Hightower, Otto's nephew and a general who will factor into the battles in season three.
The Winter Wolves are led by Ser Roderick Dustin, also known as "Roddy the Ruin." Many of the Winter Wolves end up dying, but they cause significant losses to Team Green, including a number of Lannister soldiers.
The returning cast for House of the Dragon season three includes Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim.
With the Winter Wolves joining the battlefield, the North's influence in the Dance of the Dragons wars is set to be more prominent than ever. This expansion of House Stark's role, along with the introduction of new northern allies such as Alysanne Blackwood, suggests a greater emphasis on northern values and military prowess in the larger conflict.
Stay tuned for more updates on House of the Dragon season 3 as they become available. The earliest expected release date for the new season is in the year 2026.
