New action-comedy film available on Prime Video, showcasing elements that suggest it could become a future cult classic
In the world of British comedy, "Deep Cover" is making waves and aiming to win hearts and laughs on both sides of the Atlantic. Directed by Tom Kingsley, known for the BAFTA-winning TV comedy "Stath Lets Flats," this new addition to Prime Video's catalogue is not your typical light-hearted comedy.
The film introduces us to Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard), a one-time improv comedian turned coach, who is struggling to find success. Among her regulars is Marlon (Orlando Bloom), an actor committed to The Method but with only a bit-part in a pizza commercial to his name. Another regular, Hugh (Nick Mohammed), is an IT Manager who struggles with social situations and has no friends at work.
The trio, including Marlon and Hugh, are recruited by Billings (Sean Bean), a hard-nosed cop, for a supposedly small-time job of infiltrating a local gang. However, things are not as they seem, and the trio finds themselves in over their heads. The gang, headed by Fry (Paddy Considine), is actually involved in a massive drugs empire.
Orlando Bloom is a revelation as the method-acting Marlon, while Nick Mohammed shines as the clumsy but well-meaning member of the group. The characters in "Deep Cover" are often cast in roles that challenge expectations, such as Bloom as an aspiring actor who thinks he's Brando.
"Deep Cover" is a little film that could and has "cult favorite" written all over it. It's packed with plenty of action and one-liners, making it a must-watch for comedy and action fans alike. The start of the film suggests that "in comedy, as in battle, you must be prepared to die if you want to kill."
The ensemble cast of "Deep Cover" includes familiar faces, some playing to type and others doing the opposite. Billings seems to have gone AWOL during the operation, leaving the trio to navigate the dangerous world of drugs and crime on their own.
If you're looking for a fresh, unexpected comedy that will keep you entertained, "Deep Cover" is now available on Prime Video. Don't miss out on this exciting new addition to the streaming service's catalogue.
